Secret garden revealed
The newly formed nonprofit Soos Creek Botanical Garden in Auburn is anything but a new garden. The 22-acre site reflects 45 years of work by the owners of Maurice Skagen, 74, and longtime friend, Jim Daly, 70.
Over the years, and influenced by trips to Japan and England, Skagen and Daly have created a series of strolling gardens connected by trails and greenways.
But along the way, Skagen, the main gardener, has created a botanical garden with thousands of plants he collected. Walking paths of the garden is an exercise in fear.It is hard to believe that a garden of this large and varied was built by two people. The highlight of the garden, two long borders bisected by a grassy promenade, rivals of the border popular Bellevue Botanical Garden.
