Japan, a nation still in shock and mourning of the two disasters earlier this year, has a reason to get up and applauded yesterday by beating the United States soccer team on penalties to win the World Cup first woman.
Heading in a shootout with the score tied at 2-2, Japan prevailed over the favored U.S. team after coming from behind twice to tie the game and force the penalty shootout.
"It's disappointing for us, but a boost for Japan," said Cindy Bishop of Natick, who watched the championship game at TJ Spirits South Ashland."They need to boost morale - especially before the game to look at all women speak as much to lose (in the earthquake and tsunami), but I still want America won.
This gets things completely backwards. The amount of pollution emitted by today’s cars is actually pretty low, while the amount of congestion they cause is enormous. I’d be happy to introduce Cassidy to Charlie Komanoff one day, the guy who’s actually done all the hard empirical math on this question. The pollution-related negative externalities associated with Cassidy’s drives into Manhattan are tiny, while the congestion-related ones are enormous — well over $100 per trip.
